It's true that if Jesus is in your heart you have no reason to worry. Our mistakes are covered by the Blood of the Lamb. Plus, Jesus sits at the right hand of the Father interceeding for us (meaning that he tells the Father to forgive us when we do something wrong). Knowing these facts would be like getting the right to sin to an immature christian. However, just because we have the "get out of jail free" card doesn't mean that we can live life like the unsaved. You still need to be living right not out of fear for your life but out of love for your Savior.
"'On Judgment Day, watch out!'
These are the words of God, my Master. 'I'll turn off the sun at noon.
In the middle of the day the earth will go black. I'll turn your parties into funerals
and make every song you sing a dirge. Everyone will walk around in rags,
with sunken eyes and bald heads. Think of the worst that could happen
—your only son, say, murdered. That's a hint of Judgment Day
—that and much more.'"
-Amos 8:9-10 (theMESSAGE)
This was aimed at the Israelites who were sinning constantly and frustrating God. Yeah they were saved, they were God's chosen people, but they sinned. Their sins were like telling God that they didn't care about him and would rather please themselves.
This was how badly God felt. It's how badly he feels about you sinning now, but He has decided not boom in His anger like He used to.
Righteousness is not attained by works, but it's not attained by sinning either. Christ in you is the hope of glory. That's not referring to Heaven, but the glory of you being a righteous Christian.
PS: Can you find the prophesy of Jesus's death hidden in the verse from Amos?
